Unlike conventional hybrid vehicles, the KERS system adds extra power to the combustion engine's output level, with an impact similar to that of a turbo charger. Ferrari states that the car has a top speed exceeding 350 kilometres per hour (220 mph), and that it is capable of reaching 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) in under three seconds. The LaFerrari achieves a speed of 300 kilometres per hour (190 mph) in under 15 seconds.The LaFerrari is the first completely in-house designed Ferrari, not receiving any input from Pininfarina. This decision brings a (temporary) end to the collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina which began in 1951.
