The first copies of the new Sony Playstation 3 are packed and ready to go on sale after midnight 23 March 2007 at the Sony Center in Berlin. The PS3 was launched in the United States and Japan in November 2006, but production problems delayed its release in the rest of the world. Sony launched its PS3 console in Europe 23 March 2007, attempting to reclaim its title as the powerhouse of video gaming. The company currently trails Microsoft and Nintendo in sales of next generation consoles and the launch has been beset with problems in the last year.
